MILAN: Resident in Friday home invasion case charged with manslaughter in death of alleged burglar Jerald Ogden

The victim of the home invasion early Friday morning has been charged with manslaughter in the death of one of the alleged burglars.

Milan resident Robert Goupill was arraigned Monday in District Court in Monroe on homicide-manslaughter charges. His bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety, according to a press release from the Milan Police Department.

As of Monday night, he was still lodged in the Monroe County Jail for charges related to delivery of a controlled substance. A jail administrator said the manslaughter charge was not listed as one he was being held on. AnnArbor.com is reporting Goupill is being held on the drug charge because he was growing more medical marijuana than allowed by the state.

The victim, Jerald Antonio Ogden, was one of two burglars attempting to steal medical marijuana from Goupill's home, police say. Neighbors in the area reportedly heard several gunshots in early hours of Friday. Ogden was found dead beside a vehicle in the Scottsdale Estates subdivision, about 200 yards from Goupill's home.

The second alleged burglar is still at large. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Milan Police Department at (734) 439-1551.
